Are you one of those men who haven’t yet figured out the benefits health insurance brings to you? The following choice game will help you make up your mind. Either choose to pay small sums apiece month and be insured against any medical expenditure or bear the medical expenditure that emerges all of a sudden. The future is inattentive to all. The adage “prevention is superior than cure” aptly embodies the theme of health insurance.
Health insurance benefits are many. Health insurance depicts a contractual relationship between an insurance company (called the insurer) and the insured. Under health insurance, the insurer concurs to indemnify or reimburse all health care costs incurred by the insured, for which the latter has to make a regular premium to the insurance company. If during the period of illness, there was any loss of income, health insurance also will compensate for this.
Health insurance is termed also as happening and sickness insurance, medical insurance. With health insurance, the insured is recompensed for all expenses prefabricated towards hospitalization, drugs and medicines, surgery, work tests, physicians’ fees, X-rays, and other diagnostic procedures, irradiation therapy, maternity and nursing care, eyeglasses, crutches, prostheses, etc. Thus, the greatest benefits of health insurance are brought about with the utility of time and supplying for risk.
Health insurance can be classified into two classes- indemnity plans and managed care plans. The basic difference between the two is that while in indemnity plans the insured has the right to approach any physician and get indemnified of all or a part of the medical expenses; in managed care plans, the insurance company will restrict the insured’s choice of physicians and hospitals. The insurance company has entered into an arrangement with choose physicians and hospitals for the health care needs, and the insured is referred only to these.
It is not as important to decide which health insurance type one is going for; instead, the coverage of the health insurance must be carefully examined. By coverage is meant the various medical expenses that will be recompensed by the insurance company. The benefits of health insurance is very much dependant on the right cover that one is getting. A right health insurance cover will include:
* The cost of hospital room and other minor costs must be included in the hospital expense insurance. * If you are undergoing surgery, the surgeon’s fees and other costs related to this surgery must be included in the surgical expense insurance. * Physicians charge fees for visiting hospital to see the insured. Such fees for doctor’s visit must be included in the physician’s expense insurance.
This is not an exhaustive list and by shopping carefully for health insurance benefits, one can get covered for prescription drugs, preventive care and many more. Shop for health insurance as an individual or take a group option. Carefully think about the benefits of apiece health insurance scheme before acceding to one.

The chance of getting pneumonia is three times higher for critically ill persons who gets treated through famous acid reflux medications. This has been found at th end of the research by Wake Forest University School of Medicine
Pneumonia acquired in the hospital is the leading cause of infection-related death among critically ill patients. Pneumonia increases the average length of the hospital stays by seven to nine days. It also increases the cost of care and risk of other complications.
Head of the Section on Critical Care in the Department of Anesthesiology David L. Bowton, MD, senior researcher said, “As ideal we can tell, patients who develop hospital-acquired pneumonia or ventilator-acquired pneumonia have about a 20 to 30 percent change of dying from that pneumonia. It’s a significant event.”
There was a comparison between acid reflux treatment of two drugs: ranitidine (Zantac TM) and pantoprazole (Prilosec TM). Prilosec is stated to me more powerful than Zantac hence it has become the favorite in many hospitals. Stomach acid is decreased by these drugs. An analysis prefabricated among 834 patients has revealed that cardiothoracic surgery patients who are hospitalized and treated with prilosec are suppose to have three times higher chance of getting affected by pneumonia.
Marc G. Reichert, Co-author of the journal and pharmacy coordinator for surgery at the Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center stated “We conducted this study, in part, because we thought we were seeing more pneumonias than we were used to having,”.
Very serious ill patients who are with breathing support are very much vulnerable to pneumonia when lungs gets affected due to refluxes of stomach acid. Bacteria gets more comfortable with stomach when the acids in the stomach gets reduced. It is stated by Bowton that ranitidine (Zantac) should be used in cases where an acid reflux drug is needed. From primeval days doctors have prescribed these acid reflux drugs to the patients. But now it should be seriously considered whether it’s more good or more bad.
It is stated by Reichert that “Stopping the drugs early appears to be the ideal thing for patients,”
Acid reflux drugs carry risks for all individuals, not just the chronically ill. Prilosec, for example, which is commonly prescribed for heartburn, commonly causes headache and diarrhea. OTC Prilosec is available, but that does not it’s innocuous simply because you can get it without a prescription. Drugs are toxic substance which interrupt the homeostasis within the body. Illness results from a disruption of this delicate balance. In fact, some acid reflux drugs can actually contribute to the problem of acid reflux with long-term use.
Natural solutions are always superior than medications for acid reflux. Natural remedies consist of factors such as changing the diet, reducing the stress. By changing the diet to natural food, by reducing stress one of the patients who suffered from acid reflux is healthy to absolutely heal from the suffering. He has been absolutely cured without the help of those hazardous medications.

FDA Approves First Qualified Health Claim for Chromium Picolinate and Risk of Type 2 Diabetes
Purchase, N.Y. (PRWEB) September 2, 2005
The U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) issued a favorable response to a eligible health claim petition filed by Nutrition 21, recognizing chromium picolinate as a innocuous nutritional supplement that might reduce the risk of insulin resistance and possibly type 2 diabetes. In a letter to the Company, the FDA’s Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition concluded that there is credible evidence to support the following eligible health claim:
ÂOne small study recommends that chromium picolinate might reduce the risk of insulin resistance, and therefore possibly might reduce the risk of type 2 diabetes. FDA concludes, however, that the existence of such a relationship between chromium picolinate and either insulin resistance or type 2 diabetes is highly uncertain.Â
The FDA declined to permit other eligible health claims that were proposed by the Company. ÂThe FDA’s initial response, while a starting point, is an important milestone in our Company’s effort to communicate the health benefits of our products, stated Gail Montgomery, President and CEO of nutrition 21. ÂWe anticipate several conclusive peer-reviewed studies to publish in the months ahead that should help build evidence to support additional health claims for chromium picolinate as the first recognized supplement that might reduce the risk of insulin resistance and possibly type 2 diabetes. Nutrition 21 holds the patent rights for those applications.
The study cited by the FDA was conducted by William Cefalu, MD, chief of the division of nutrition and chronic diseases at the Pennington BioMedical Research Center, Louisiana Say University System. ÂEmerging research recommends that 200-1,000 mcg of chromium as chromium picolinate might play an important role in carbohydrate metabolism, stated Cefalu.
The FDA also concluded that chromium picolinate is safe, stating the following:
ÂFDA concludes at this time, under the preliminary stipulations of 21 CFR 101.14(b)(3)(ii), that the use of chromium picolinate in dietary supplements as described in the [approved] eligible health claims discussed in section IV is innocuous and lawful under the applicable viands Act.Â
Insulin Resistance and Diabetes
Insulin resistance is an epidemic condition that dramatically increases risk for type 2 diabetes, coronary heart disease and stroke, estimated to affect one in three Americans, according to The American College of Endocrinology (ACE) and the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists (AACE).
ÂThe FDA ruling confirms our strategic investments in clinical research to differentiate Chromax® (http://www.chromax.com) and Diachrome® (http://www.diachrome.com) from other chromium supplements, added Montgomery. ÂThis eligible health claim should help health professionals and millions of consumers make superior informed choices about reducing the risk of insulin resistance with chromium picolinate supplementation and possibly reducing the risk for type 2 diabetes.Â
Health Claims for Dietary Supplements:
Because dietary supplements are under the “umbrella” of foods, FDA’s Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition (CFSAN) is responsible for the agency’s oversight of these products. Health claims describe a relationship between a food, food component, or dietary supplement ingredient, and reducing risk of a disease or health-related condition. By law, manufacturers might make three types of claims for their dietary supplement products: health claims, structure/function claims, and nutrient content claims.
The FDA will grant appropriately eligible health claims for dietary supplements as well as conventional foods, when the link between the substance’s capability to reduce the risk of the disease does not meet the standard of “significant scientific agreement.” According to the FDA’s website, these eligible claims are based on the weight of the scientific evidence, i.e., there is more evidence for than against the relationship. In October 6, 2000, FDA published its updated strategy that describes when the bureau will exercise enforcement discretion to grant eligible dietary supplement claims for nutrient/disease relationships. http://www.cfsan.fda.gov/~lrd/fr001006.html.
